After the tragedy of 9/11 2001, our industry was severely hit with a mass exodus of Tier I contract manufacturer’s leaving the North American marketplace for low cost countries (LCC). Stepping away from their core competencies, the Tier I contractors soon began seeking out low/medium volume customers to fill the excess capacity created by this tragedy. DataED decided at that time to invest in a low cost country (China) to enable our high-tech, low/medium volume customers a competitive edge in today’s pricing wars.
In 2002 ground was broken in Shenzhen, China on a 50,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility.
The renovations completed in 2003 allow seamless transition of products from our Salem, NH facility to our mirror-image sister company. Our supply chain management process has also been re-invented to support the manufacture of the low/medium volume products, providing opportunity to fully capitalize on the inexpensive labor in Shenzhen.
Establishing full ownership of our Shenzhen facility has enabled us to fully manage our customer relationships with extensive program management and support from our US based headquarters in Salem, NH. Ownership provides us the ability to offer payment terms, therefore eliminating Letters of Credit and Cash in Advance relationships that are prevalent with LCC businesses. It also ensures total confidentiality and retention of intellectual properties within the boundaries of our company.

This avoids the hassle of untimely conference calls, communication gaps, language barriers and “real time” information gathering.
